Finally, after about a year of collecting, crafting, and procrastinating I finally finished my son's alphabet wall in his nursery. He is clearly the 3rd child. When my first was born her nursery was ready and waiting for her. Oh how times have changed. I love the way it turned out. Definitely worth the wait.

Time for an Ice Cream Party
My soon to be 3 year old requested an ice cream party this year for her birthday. OK to be totally honest, she would have loved a Dora the Explorer party but with a little gentle coaxing we agreed that an ice cream party would be awesome (and much more fun to decorate). I was stoked to start planning and of course pinning! My first inspiration came from this incredibly cute ice cream truck complete with bowls and wooden spoons. $11.95 for 12 bowls and spoons from Meri Meri http://www.shopmerimeri.com/icecreamvanicecreamcup.aspx
Next, the color scheme. Gray, pink and yellow. Love the free chevron paper courtesy of Fab n' Free http://www.fabnfree.com/2012/09/08/240-free-chevron-patterns-papers-templates-backgrounds/
I used the paper for the bunting, food cards and paper rosettes

I have a large, bright window behind the dessert table. I wanted to find something to enhance the backdrop. I decided on a chalkboard and colorful paper rosettes. My sister and I searched the local thrift stores to find a cheap, wooden frame. With a little spray paint and chalkboard paint...voila a cute chalkboard. A little trick for writing on the chalkboard. Print out the wording on your computer in the font of your choice. Color the back of the paper with chalk. Turn it over and lay it on the chalkboard. Trace the lettering. Lift the paper and neaten it up.
Next was the paper rosettes. Great directions from The Broke-Ass Bride http://www.thebrokeassbride.com/2012/04/decor-diy-a-step-by-step-how-to-guide-to-making-colorful-paper-rosettes/
The centerpiece was definitely the pink ombre cake. It turned out beautifully and was super easy, I SWEAR! 52 Kitchen Adventures http://www.52kitchenadventures.com/2012/08/30/how-to-frost-an-ombre-rose-cake/ had a fantastic step-by-step video. I am a novice cake decorator. If I can do it so can you.
I decided to splurge and get a soft serve ice cream machine so guests could make their own cones and sundaes. I set up a little toppings bar for all to enjoy. It was a big hit.
The rest of the deserts included rainbow sherbet punch with mason jars and cute paper straws from Etsy, of course, chocolate-caramel cupcakes that looked like sundaes, ice cream cone cupcakes, mini cake pop ice cream cones (mini cones from Walmart), and cherry chip cupcakes.
The party was a big success and all my pinning and crafting turned out just as I had envisioned. Most importantly, my daughter LOVED it.
This is my first blog post. Please let me know if you have any questions, comments or suggestions:-)
